The One Genuine Risk in Remapping
Writing a new calibration to an ECU takes anywhere from ten minutes to over half an hour, and the ECU must stay powered and stable for the entire write. During that time the ignition is on, cooling fans can kick in, and the battery is supplying everything with the engine off. If voltage sags below the ECU’s threshold mid-write, the write fails — and a half-written ECU can leave a car unbootable. Recovering one is possible, but it can mean bench work, and in the worst cases a replacement unit.
