If you’ve never had a vehicle remapped, the process can feel like a black box. Here’s exactly what happens when Precision Autoworks UK arrives at your driveway, step by step.
Step 1: Diagnostics Before Anything Else
Every job starts with a full diagnostic scan. We’re checking for stored fault codes, sensor issues and anything that suggests the engine isn’t healthy. Tuning a car with an underlying fault multiplies the problem — so if we find something significant, we tell you before any tuning happens, not after.
Step 2: Battery Support and Stock Backup
We connect a 100amp battery support unit for the entire session. ECU writes can take 20–40 minutes, and a voltage dip mid-write is one of the few ways tuning can genuinely go wrong — the support unit removes that risk completely. We then read and save your original factory file. This stock backup means your car can always be returned to standard, and a USB copy is available on request.
Step 3: The Calibration
Your file goes to our trusted UK file providers, where the maps — fuelling, boost, torque limiters, throttle — are adjusted for your exact engine, fuel and goals. This isn’t a generic off-the-shelf file: it’s written for your vehicle’s specification.
Step 4: Write, Test, Verify
The new calibration is written to the ECU, we clear adaptations, run the engine through warm-up, and carry out a road test with live data logging where appropriate. Before we leave you get a final scan confirming no fault codes and a walkthrough of what’s changed.
The whole visit typically takes about an hour. Book yours — evenings and weekends available across Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
